March 3 2008 - Ridiculous Steward’s Decision Robs Reidy of Krikke Boys Shootout Podium Result

Danny Reidy was looking the goods for a podium result during last weekend’s Krikke Boys Shootout at Bunbury City Speedway only to have a very bad steward’s decision deny him of such a result.

After starting the feature race on the second and final night from position 13, Reidy had worked his way up to fourth by the 25th lap and was locked in a tense battle with David Murcott for third place only to have the latter spin and later come to a stop after slight contact between the pair.

“David [Murcott] and I were running wheel to wheel and neither of us was going to give an inch, and then contact was made, and in my opinion it was just a simple racing incident,” Reidy explained.

“The chief steward saw it differently and sent to me to the rear of the field for the restart as he had deemed me to be the cause of the stoppage.

“I think he [the chief steward] needs to study the rule book again, as we don’t travel across the country season after season to have our races ruined by an incompetent chief stewards, and in my time as a driver I have never been dealt such a stupid decision.”

With tensions high and a strong belief that he was hard done by, Reidy stopped on the main straight during the caution period in protest, and made his feelings directly known to the chief steward.

“I was not too happy with the decision and I and many other people felt I was robbed, so I stopped on the main straight to let him know that, and it certainly got the 10,000 fans in the stands revved up,” he said.

“In the early stages of the feature race the high line worked a treat and I was able to charge my way forward, but when I was sent rear of field the track had changed and there was no race line up anymore so it was going to be near impossible to work my way back.”

As a result, Reidy took his # 5 NT Queensland Speedway Spares backed Eagle to the infield after his main straight antics.

It was an action packed final night of the Krikke Boys Shootout for Reidy, he had blown a power steering hose whilst running second to Ryan Farrell in his heat race and consequently retired, and he just managed to make the field for the Dash A and finished in seventh. For the feature race Reidy started from position 13 in the field.

On the opening night Reidy had qualified seventh in time trials, and then in his heat race he was forced to retire due to being involved in a crash when a car had spun out. Forced to transfer for the feature race via the B-main Reidy finished in third place, and he then managed to make good progress in the feature race by finishing sixth after he had started from deep in the field, position 19.

Reidy is next weekend (March 7 and 8) scheduled to contest the King of Wings event at the Perth Motorplex and he is most definitely hoping for much better results.
