January 26 2009 -Reidy Makes A Good Account of Himself at Grand Annual Classic
By his own accounts Danny Reidy wasn’t happy with how his 2008/09 season Grand Annual Classic panned out over the Australia Day Long Weekend at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway in Victoria; however he still put in a good performance over the two nights to qualify directly into both feature races.
Reidy failed to finish the feature race on the opening night due to magneto failure to his # 5 NT Desert Palms Resort backed J&J and then on the second and final night finished the feature race in 15th. Post race Reidy was not being happy about where he finished the second night’s feature race after he had started from position 11 amongst the star-studded line-up.
“It was great to make the feature race directly on both nights of the Grand Annual Classic but disappointing at the same time as I had started the final night’s feature race out of position 11 and then backed up,” Reidy commented. “We didn’t quite get it together setup wise in the feature race on the final night and that contributed in me going backwards.”
Making for the feature race on both nights of the Grand Annual Classic was an achievement in itself due to the fact that there were close to 70 nominated and the fact that many of the stars driver’s were unable to qualify into the feature race on either of the nights.
In the King’s Challenge on Friday night at Borderline Speedway (Mt. Gambier, SA) Reidy qualified into the feature race out of position 13 but it was cancelled due to rain. Reidy qualified 16th in time trials and finished his two heat races with a win and a seventh place.
Two nights earlier for the running of the President’s Cup at Avalon Raceway (Geelong, VIC) Reidy didn’t have the best of runs and missed out on a feature race berth due to being involved in an opening lap pile up in the B-main. The night for Reidy started strongly when he qualified eighth in time trials and finished the opening heat race in sixth. However in the second heat race Reidy suffered a DNF and was therefore sentenced to the B-main.
This coming Friday and Saturday night (January 30 and 31) at Speedway City (Adelaide, SA) Reidy will contest the Australian Nationals.
