March 23 2009 - Last Minute Change of Mind Rewards Reidy with Podium Result

Last Saturday night (March 21) Danny Reidy had originally planned to contest the Victorian Sprintcar Championship down at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway, but a last minute decision to run at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway (TPCR) turned out to be a worthwhile one after he picked up his second podium finish of the 2008/09 season.

Reidy’s third place finish on the podium was achieved the hard way after he had started deep in the feature race field, position 16, and his drive throughout the 30 lap event was spectacular to say the very least. In what was an action packed drive, where he battled and fended off many of the strong TPCR posse, such as Ian Madsen and soon to be TPCR track champion Mitchell Dumesny, Reidy was pleased to finally crack a podium finish at TPCR.

“It was a very exciting feature race and it was great to end up finishing on the podium. I am now very glad that I opted to stay at TPCR and not contest the Victorian Championship,” said Reidy. “Starting from so far back in the field was always going to be a tough task. From the drop of the green I just threw caution to the wind. I was running the top of the track pretty well and that allowed me to make a lot of my passes as many of the early pace setters were running on the bottom pretty well so I knew that if was going to get by them I had to go around them.”

A late caution period during the feature race certainly didn’t work to Reidy’s advantage.

“I didn’t need that last caution period as before that I was building up plenty of momentum and both Kelly [Linigen] and Roddy [Bell-Bowen] running the bottom, so I was sizing them up to go around them, but things didn’t work out that way,” commented the NT # 5 Desert Palms Resort sponsored J&J driver. “During the final restart Roddy [Bell-Bowen] realised that he needed to go to the top in order to get pass Kelly [Linigen] and he then started running where I was and I stayed back in third as a result.”

Reidy started the night by qualifying 23rd in time trials and that gave him a pole position start for his heat race and he ended up winning that race in quite comfortable fashion

Now loaded with added confidence Reidy will remain in Sydney to contest the final round of the TPCR Track Championship this Saturday night (March 28).
