April 13 2009 - Avalon Raceway Podium Result the Highlight of Reidy’s 2008/09 Season Easter Trail

After finishing the past two Easter Sprintcar Trails in second and first in the overall point standings, Danny Reidy was hoping to return to the winner’s circle once again over the Easter Long Weekend down in Victoria but it wasn’t to be and he ended up finishing fourth overall in the point standings.

The only joy for Reidy over the three night’s of the Easter Trail was his third place finish at Avalon Raceway (Geelong, VIC) on the Friday night during the opening round and other than that it was a case of what might have been.

At Borderline Speedway (Mt. Gambier, SA) on Saturday night Reidy was forced to qualify for the feature race through the B-main and then he was forced to retire from the feature race due to damage sustained in an earlier collision. On the Sunday night over at Premier Speedway (Warrnambool, VIC) Reidy had qualified on pole position and led the opening 10 laps before coming under fire from Robbie Farr and dropping back to second place. Reidy’s night ended on the 20th lap of the feature race when he was forced to retire due to driveline failure.

“We had a good start to the Easter Trail by finishing on the podium at Avalon Raceway, but from there onwards we just couldn’t take a trick,” Reidy said. “At Borderline Speedway we were involved in a coming together with another competitor and that caused some damage to my car and forced me to retire and then at Premier Speedway we stuck it on pole position and were probably good enough for second only to drop out of the running due to driveline failure.”

Despite the dramas, Reidy had still managed to bank enough points to finish the Easter Trail in fourth place overall driving his NT # 5 Desert Palms Resort supported J&J.

“Fourth place is pretty flattering considering the dramas we had on both second and third nights and our pace was well and truly there we just seemed to not have much of the good old lady luck,” explained Reidy. “The Easter Trail is always filled with excitement and drama and this season we seemed to have a lot more drama than excitement but that is just the way things go sometimes.”

Nights two and three of the Easter Trail looked to be promising runs for Reidy as he had earlier in the night at Borderline Speedway (night two) topped the time sheets in qualifying and then finished second in his opening heat race and was running third (from the rear of the grid) in the second heat race only to get put into wall due to another car being forced into his path. Due to dropping the second heat, Reidy had to take part in the B-main in order to qualify for the feature race. The next night at Premier Speedway Reidy had qualified eighth in time trials and a win and a sixth place in his two heat races put him as the highest point scorer for the feature race and he therefore earned the right to start from pole position.

The plan for Reidy now is to base himself up in Queensland for the remainder of the 2008/09 season and he will next likely to be competing this Saturday night (April 18) at Brisbane International Speedway.
