October 19 2009 - Reidy Starts 09/10 Season with Hard Charging Finish

The 2009/10 season began last Saturday night at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway (TPCR) for Danny Reidy and he ended the night with an eighth place finish in the ‘Brian Healey Cup’ feature race.

Although pleased with a top 10 finish in his debuting outing for the 09/10 season, the Queenslander felt that he could have finished with a better result had he not encountered a drama earlier in the night.

Reidy had qualified fourth in time trials and that booked him into a sixth place starting position for the his heat race and that was when trouble struck the NT # 5 Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs backed J&J racer.

“While I was forming up in my position for my heat race I felt a vibration at the rear end of my car and pulled into the work area before the race had started just for precaution to see what the trouble was,” explained Reidy. “There didn’t seem to be any worrying signs and rejoined the field for the start. Due to stopping in the work bay I had to forfeit my original starting position and move to the rear.”

It was a tough gig for Reidy to start from the rear of his heat race and make the top five transfer positions into the feature race. Reidy worked his way forward and narrowly missed out on a direct transfer after he had finished in seventh.

Due to missing out on a direct feature race transfer Reidy took his position on the front row of the B-main. Taking full advantage of his front row start Reidy moved directly to the lead and scored a comfortable victory.

By virtue of winning the B-main Reidy started the feature race from position 15 in the field and charged his way forward to finish in eighth spot at the completion of the 30 lap journey.

“It was a good hit out for our first race meeting of the season and a top 10 result is a pleasing outcome considering where we had to come from in the field,” Reidy expressed. “The car felt good throughout the season and it would have been interesting had we started higher up the field as I felt we had good speed to be at least a top five contender.”

Reidy opted to travel down to TPCR instead of racing around his home track, Brisbane International Speedway (BIS) back in Queensland due to the strong way he finished last season at the Sydney venue.

“We finished on the podium in our last two runs of last season at TPCR, so we thought we’d come back down and try our lack early in the season,” explained Reidy. “The plan is to run the next meeting at TPCR in a fortnight’s time, then compete at BIS the following weekend before the opening round of the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship two weekend’s after that.”

The next appearance for Reidy will be on Saturday night, October 31 back at TPCR.

Reidy would like to say thanks to Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs and Baines Engines for all their ongoing support.
