May 31 2010 - No Australian Title Joy for Reidy:

Despite making a solid start to weekend, there was no joy for Danny Reidy during his 2010 Australian Sprintcar Title assault that was held in his home state of the Northern Territory at Darwin’s Northline Speedway over the weekend.

In what was his first visit to the Northline Speedway track in five years, Reidy started his Australian Title campaign in the best possible fashion when he topped the time sheets in the qualifying / practice sessions and then came out and won his opening heat race of the weekend.

With his confidence high, Reidy went out in his second heat race of the night and that was when disaster struck. Reidy’s NT # 5 Desert Palms Resort supported J&J snapped a rear axle while running in a front running position and it resulted in him crashing out.

Due to crashing out of his second heat race, Reidy dropped down the point standings at the completion of the opening night. For the second night Reidy returned determined to fight back and he finished his opening heat race in sixth place and then seventh in his fourth and final heat race. During the latter heat race Reidy was forced to the ROF due to being forced to spin to avoid a spun competitor.

Reidy had picked up just enough points to gain a place in the B-main and he started from deep in the field out of position 15. After he had made a strong start, Reidy moved up to ninth place and his hopes of advancing further were dashed when he was forced to spin out to miss another car that had spun out on the fifth lap. As a result Reidy was forced ROF for the restart and it was then that he decided to park his car on the infield.

“Our weekend certainly didn’t turn out the way we had planned which was disappointing, especially considering it was my home state Australian Title,” Reidy commented. “We made a great start to the weekend, but as soon as you drop a heat race you are going to be on the back foot and that was exactly what happened to us.”

Reidy will make one final appearance for the 2009/10 season when he contests the annual $5,000 to win Gold Cup at Lismore Speedway in Northern NSW on Sunday, June 13.

Reidy would like to thank Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs, Titan Plant Hire, Baines Engines, Gonzo Racing Pipes, Camden Neon Signs and P&M Motor Body Repairs for all their support throughout the 2009/10 season.
